January 4: St. Gregory (Bishop)

Butler writes of this particular Saint Gregory (there are quite a few), “An incredible number of infidels were converted by him from idolatry, and worldly Christians from their disorders.” Very little else is known of him other than he took up his ecclesiastical post as a widower.

Socially conservative Christians really like this kind of thing–making Christians out of non-Christians (dismissing their former faith as faith-in-idols/false gods) and stopping Christians from enjoying their embodied lives (i.e., being “worldly”). They also really like labeling Christians who don’t toe the party line in thought or behavior as “disordered.”

Doing a LOT of these activities made our Gregory a saint… Thoughts?

  1. I think we should make him the patron saint of Republicans. I believe there may be some Christian disorders showing up in the party.
