Well, you’d think that by sheer population alone, Texas could not possibly lose in the “Who retweeted more Russian trolling tweets as if they were facts?”–right?
According to PBS’s NewsHour, a University of Southern California study of the identified Russian trolling tweets of fake news articles and claims, falsely attributed to (usually fake) Americans, were most often retweeted by residents of Tennessee, with Texas coming in second of our fifty states. And when it came to forwarding this fake news, conservatives were doing it at a rate 30 times that of liberals. [Of course, for us math types, had the liberals been retweeting lies at the rate of 0 (zero), then 30 times that would be fully acceptable.]
Amazingly, Tennesseans not only finished in first, but “first with a bullet”! They shared almost 50,000 of these false memes and tales to win the Race to the Bottom. Texas? Yes, it came in second, but at a modest (even measly) total of approximately 26,000.
